Dr. Ellis Tinsley
Dr. Ellis Tinsley is a leading Wilmington vein specialist. Board-certified as both a general surgeon and a vascular surgeon, he has over 15 years of experience treating vein disease and related problems.
Dr. Tinsley received his undergraduate degree from Davidson College and attended the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, from which he received his M.D. He then stayed at the UNC hospitals to do a residency in general surgery and was eventually promoted to administrative chief resident. He later completed a fellowship in vascular surgery within the UNC hospital system.
Currently, Ellis Tinsley serves as president of Wilmington Surgical Associates, Senior Attending Surgeon at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, and Clinical Professor of Surgery at University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He is also Past President of the North Carolina Chapter, American College of Surgeons.
As a Wilmington area vein expert, Dr. Tinsley has received numerous professional honors, including being named to the list of Best Doctors in North Carolina five times in the past nine years and to the Leadership College, North Carolina Medical Society. Previously, he served on numerous task forces and committees at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He has held positions on the boards of the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, Wilmington Surgcare, Symbion, Inc., Ambulatory Surgical Center, Atlantic Surgicenter, and Joint Venture Ambulatory Surgical Center.
He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Phlebology, American Society of Breast Surgeons, American Society of General Surgery, New Hanover-Pender Medical Society, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgery, Society of Vascular Ultrasound, Nathan A. Womack Surgical Society and American College of Physician Executives. He has published an extensive list of articles on topics related to general and vascular surgery.
Dr. Ellis Tinsley took part in a medical mission to the Dominican Republic in 2008, during which he conducted 35 procedures. He holds leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America organization and at Saint Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church, and is also involved in youth coaching.
